Eli76: Hi! I am 36 years old and I have suffered of an eating disorder since I was a kid. I am OK and healthy now, but still I have body image problems. Anyway I am going out with this guy that is quite petite (small bone, not too tall). His size makes me feel big and inadeguate, although I am size 4-6 and wear a small, so I know rationally that I am not big. He always makes complinent on the way I look, so this is not a problem.

Nicole Amesbury, MS, RMHCI (therapist): I think it is important to acknowledge the progress you have made. It is very positive. So, in regards to your problems with self esteem, I want to ask a question. Let's say that you go to sleep tonight. When you wake up in the morning, a miracle happened and you had healthy self-esteem. How would you know that your problem had been solved and what would be different?

Eli76: Thanks Nicole! this is a very good question. I had to think about it. The major difference would be in how I feel, as I would feel more confident in relating with other people. I would be less worried that I disturb them if I call them or go to see them, I would feel less anxious (although I really try to do it). I would organize more things and invite my friends, and if it doesn't work, I would not think it is my fault. The same with guys or friends, if they do not invite me or contact

Eli76: me, I would think that it happens ad there is nothing wrong we me. Unless of course, everyone does that, but it is not the case. So I think the major change would be how I feel.
